You Do Not Have to Win Monday

Some people begin Monday with goals, affirmations, and enough energy to frighten the coffee machine. Dull Hog begins by locating the coffee machine.

Monday is often presented as an opportunity.

A fresh start. A clean page. A chance to set the tone for an exceptionally productive week.

Dull Hog would like to set the tone slightly lower.

He arrived. He found the correct building. Both shoes appear to belong to him. At this hour, that is a respectable opening performance.

Monday has terrible public relations

The trouble may not be Monday itself. The trouble is everything Monday is expected to represent.

By 9:00 AM, you are apparently supposed to have reviewed your goals, answered your emails, organised your priorities and become a noticeably improved version of the person who went to bed on Sunday.

Meanwhile, your brain is still displaying a loading symbol.

Not every week needs an impressive beginning. Some weeks begin quietly, with a lukewarm drink and twenty minutes spent remembering your password.

The week can still recover.

Starting slowly is still starting

When energy is low, a dramatic plan can become one more thing you are failing to do. A smaller beginning is less exciting, but much more cooperative.

These are Dull Hog’s personal observations, not professional productivity or mental-health advice. A tired worker might try:

  • Choosing one task that genuinely needs attention.
  • Finishing something small before opening every possible problem.
  • Leaving room for the day to improve gradually.
  • Refusing to measure an entire week by its first hour.

This is not a morning routine. It is barely a routine at all.

That is why it has potential.

You are a person, not a weekly software update

There is a strange belief that rest should produce a fully restored employee every Monday morning.

Two days pass, and suddenly you should be refreshed, focused and grateful to return. Any remaining tiredness is treated like a technical fault.

Unfortunately, people do not always charge to 100%.

Sometimes the weekend contained family obligations, household work, poor sleep or simply not enough hours. Sometimes nothing unusual happened and you are still tired because being alive has rather demanding system requirements.

You do not need to pretend otherwise.

A failed reboot does not mean the week is lost

Dull Hog is still standing beside the coffee machine. One drop lands in the mug.

Around him, people rush towards ambitious destinations. He waits for the next drop.

There is no victory speech. No transformation. Just the gradual return of basic functions.

The REBOOT FAILED T-shirt was made for mornings like this: when the system technically started, but nobody should expect advanced features yet.

Monday does not need to be conquered.

Sometimes getting through it is enough.
